The Dalmatian is energetic, playful, and loyal to its family. They are generally good with children and enjoy being active participants in family life. Their high exercise requirements mean they are not suited to sedentary households. Dalmatians are intelligent and trainable but can be sensitive and do not respond well to harsh methods. They thrive on companionship and can become destructive or anxious when under-exercised or left alone for long periods.
